Joe Newman has represented Council District 6 for the past six years. He pursued a seat on the City Council to better the quality of life and the environment of Anderson and to benefit the neighborhood and the community as a whole.

Mr. Newman supports beautification efforts and the need for demolition of structures that have outlived their usefulness. In 2007, he proposed that a help line be instituted, and has been a long time supporter of aid to senior citizens and those with special needs.

Newman is a member of the council’s committees on budget, parks, streets, health, city planning, and animal shelter. He is the council’s representative to the Board of Public Works and the Historic Preservation Commission.
