City Announces Fire Hydrant Flushing

The City of Anderson is committed to providing quality and sustainable water services with reliable, uninterrupted flow to our community. The City will perform water quality and fire safety maintenance for fire hydrants beginning July 12, 2021. This routine maintenance flushes our water mains and is essential to remove minerals from our underground water mains. The eight to ten-week hydrant maintenance schedule is coordinated with the Anderson Fire Department to ensure optimal performance of the fire hydrants. Hydrants will be inspected for leaks and operational concerns in order to meet the City’s Class 3 fire insurance rating requirements, thereby providing fire and casualty insurance premium savings for our citizens and business owners. Tap water is safe for human consumption during flushing operations. However, low water pressure and slight discoloration may be experienced during this time. If this occurs, briefly flush the cold water side of your faucets for 3-5 minutes. If water discoloration persists for longer than two days, please contact the City of Anderson Water Department at (765) 648-6420.
