The City of Anderson Transit System (CATS) installed a waste oil
furnace from Clean Burn in August 2013. This allows CATS to heat the garage for
free and reduces the need to transport used oil off site. Used oil and
petroleum products drained from the CATS bus fleet are now being
environmentally recycled on site. All Clean Burn furnaces are approved by the
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). During
the winter season of 2012-2013, CATS consumed 1,635 gallons of fuel, at a cost
of $5,800, to heat the garage. This savings will pay for the cost of the
furnace in one season and continue saving the taxpayer’s money for years.
We transform hundreds of gallons of waste oil annually into free heat for the CATS garage using the Clean Burn furnaces. We’re also recycling the waste oil during the other months of the year, so this keeps us from sending waste oil to a disposal center. We eliminate the transportation charges and risks, along with potential environmental risks, by recycling the waste oil on site. This allows us to heat our facility without using traditional energy sources.
CATS will accept used/waste oil from the public at the garage located at 530 Dale Keith Jones Road (530 Baxter Road) Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. For more information, call 765-648-6400.
