Anderson Police Department Criminal Intelligence Unit

Purpose

The primary objective of the Criminal Intelligence Unit is to fuse key information into a single intelligence database that facilitates a seamless flow of critical information between all areas of the Anderson Police Department.

Additional objectives include:

  1. Determine level of organized crime in our jurisdiction.
  2. Identify key criminal figures, associations and affiliations.
  3. Establish a detection system for organized crime.
  4. Determine the influence of organized crime on business, industry and government.
  5. Increase interagency cooperation.
  6. Increase public awareness of organized criminal activity.

The Anderson Police Department will actively collect criminal intelligence information on individuals, organizations and businesses that are suspected of being involved in the planning, organizing, financing or commission of criminal activities; or who have threatened, attempted, planned or performed criminal acts. Furthermore, APD may collect intelligence information on individuals who have an established association with known or suspected crime figures and organizations and businesses that are operated, controlled, financed, infiltrated, or illegally used by crime figures.

Anderson Police Department Crime Analysis Unit

Purpose

To establish a systematic method for the collection, analysis and distribution of statistical data on reported crimes and criminals to aid the Department in its efforts to prevent and suppress crime and to apprehend criminal offenders. Crime analysis will also aid the department in strategic planning as it relates to such topics as crime trends, agency resource allocation, crime prevention and other associated areas.

It is the policy of the Anderson Police Department to provide current statistical data in a clear, concise format to facilitate evaluation of crime patterns, deployment of police personnel and development of crime prevention programs. The Intelligence / Crime Analysis Unit is responsible for the crime analysis function.

The department maintains analysts trained to analyze data and prepare reports, charts, diagrams, abstracts and other related documents pertaining to various crimes, offenders, and trends in criminal activity.
