IMPA Alert to Local Scam Effort
ANDERSON – IN – Today, the City of Anderson issued the following alert to area residents and businesses that are customers of the department.
Some residents and businesses within IMPA member communities have reported phone calls they’ve received from individuals identifying themselves as a Duke Energy employee or a third-party representative of Duke Energy. They’ve also claimed that Duke Energy owns IMPA.
In some cases, the customer's caller identification will display Duke Energy's name or phone number. The caller claims that the customer has been late on their payments and threatens to disconnect their electric service unless immediate payment is made with a prepaid debit card.
This is not an employee of Duke Energy and we urge our citizens not to give this caller any information and if anyone is contacted by such an individual or company, please make note of the telephone number and immediately report the incident to the Office of the Indiana Attorney General Consumer Fraud Division at (317) 232-6330 or online athttp://www.in.gov/attorneygeneral/2433.htm.
